A coffee subscription for some extra challenge and flavors

I'm all about subscriptions these days . Not only to write about, but also to use yourself. I really enjoy being challenged in this way to try some new flavors. This is also the case with this coffee subscription from the Koffiebox.

Those of you who have been following me for a while know that I'm actually quite a 'bitch' with coffee. I've written about it several times. I like to drink coffee very much, but not everywhere. For me it comes pretty much exactly with the coffee. If the coffee is not quite to my taste, I often think it is 'dirty' and I don't want to drink it anymore. It even makes me nauseous. Exaggerated, I know!

A coffee subscription, why would you?

I can imagine that you are wondering why I want to try out such a coffee subscription. Actually, that's for the same reason that I have a wine subscription. Although I am slightly less sensitive to taste with wine than with coffee, that is also the case. But "somewhere something is calling in me" that I am a poser with that coffee and that I just really have to learn to drink it. Must learn to taste and must learn to try. Kind of like kids not wanting to eat. You also just let it taste, right, a few times? At least we do.

The same can be said with coffee. Of course you can always continue to drink your own coffee, but then you become so entrenched in the taste you are used to that you don't like anything at all afterwards. Not me anyway, haha. And I actually want to get rid of that. I want to challenge myself to taste, hence the subscription where I can try different types of coffee. I don't like it? Then I know that there is a small sample bag with coffee beans to continue drinking and that I can try a new flavor afterwards.

Coffee-from-the-coffee-box

This subscription comes from the Koffiebox, which is another concept of Koffietje.nl, the website of coffee lovers Sám and Roald. The story behind their hobby is worth reading alone. They do not map out a cultural route full of sights on their travels, but a route from coffee shop to coffee shop in order to discover the best, nicest and tastiest coffee makers all over the world. Nice idea right?

But they don't just visit all coffee bars abroad, they also know where to find the best coffee corners in the Netherlands. And they record them all on Koffietje.nl. So if you are going to a certain city and want to know where you can drink the best coffee, you can find all the information here.

In addition to all the information about the coffee grounds that they can tell, they have also started a coffee subscription service where you can also try the best coffees yourself. But then just at home. Each Coffee Box contains 3 types of coffee from one specific city. The website contains plenty of information about the coffee beans (or the filter variant) that are available in the box that month. A super fun concept if you ask me.

Is it-or-no-coffee subscription?

Perhaps coffee subscription is not quite the right name for this concept. You are not tied to this subscription and can decide per month whether you want to order the coffee or not. Do you want to order the Coffee Box? Then you pay the amount for that box once and for the next month you will simply receive an email with information about the new edition of the box so that you can decide whether you would like to have your coffee delivered again that month or not. So super non-binding. And of course you can use the coffee grounds as a scrub afterwards, so you can enjoy it twice!

And do you really like a certain coffee? Then you know exactly from which coffee roaster that coffee comes from and you can order it yourself from that roaster if you want. That is why it is smart to write down what you thought of the coffees from your subscription box (and how you brewed it). As standard, a card is included on which you can note this.

I can already tell you that the first bag of coffee beans we tried is significantly different from the coffee beans we normally use. So I really had to get used to it. The fact that there was a light cherry flavor to the coffee, in combination with the cappuccino I always drink, was a bit less tasty than trying it in the full flavor without milk. So I actually drank some regular coffee again with this coffee bean variant.

Tip from Flip: If you don't like one of the coffees, try something sweet with it. The taste then changes completely and you may suddenly find it very tasty.

After the first bag of coffee beans I already notice that I am curious about the other flavors that are in my box. A good sign, right?
