After a hard day's work, we have the right to have fun, right? That's what I thought!
But be careful, not with just anything! Here is a healthy and balanced variant of these delicious chocolate bars, also called Shortbread Millionaire.
I see you coming! “What? Healthy Twix?! :-)
Yes, it may seem totally improbable, but I assure you that it is nevertheless true. You Can Eat These Homemade Twix Without Any Guilt .
These wonderful little chocolate bars are gluten-free, egg-free and refined sugar-free.
Know that I had to do dozens of tries to get this recipe perfect.
Well, I admit that it was also a good excuse to eat it every week;-)
Want me to tell you the secret of these magical treats?
It's coconut flour, by far the best gluten-free flour I've found.
It is ideal for creating Twix cookie dough, with a texture similar to shortbread.
Know that coconut flour is perfect for baking because it is super absorbent .
Crème caramel is super easy to make. You can make it on a hob or even in the microwave.
It doesn't even require cooking, just melt all the ingredients and mix them together.
Then all you have to do is pour this creamy cream over the cooled cookie dough.
While the crème caramel is cooling, combine the coconut oil, cocoa powder and maple syrup.
There you go — you've made the world's fastest homemade chocolate ! Pour a nice layer of chocolate over the caramel and let it sit. It's almost over!
To make the Twix even tastier, I sprinkle the melted chocolate with a little fleur de sel.
I love fleur de sel, especially with chocolate, because it gives it a little crispiness that goes very well with crème caramel.
So if sweet and salty isn't your thing, skip salt for a more classic taste.
I really enjoyed these homemade Twix! I gave a good chunk of it to my roommate to share with her colleagues at the office.
But I admit that I regretted having given him so much! I think a new small batch is needed in the next few days :-)
This recipe requires only 6 ingredients . And good news, these are ingredients you can eat without feeling guilty .
You can give some to almost anyone...but don't forget to keep some for yourself!
Of course, just because these cakes are made with good healthy ingredients doesn't mean you have to eat them all at once!
These homemade Twix should still be enjoyed in moderation. Good tasting!
For approximately 16 XXL chocolate bars
Preparation: 20 mins
Cooking: 10 minutes
For the cookies:
- 75 g of coconut flour
- 1 pinch of coarse salt
- 3 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 75g coconut oil
For the crème caramel:
- 125g softened almond butter
- 6 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 75 g melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of coarse salt
For the chocolate glaze:
- 50 g melted coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 1 pinch of fleur de sel
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C.
2. Coat a baking dish (about 26 x 20 cm) with coconut oil. If your dish does not have a removable bottom, you can also line the bottom with parchment paper.
3. Mix the coconut flour and salt.
4. Add the maple syrup and mix until you get a homogeneous and crumbly paste.
5. Add the coconut oil at room temperature and mix until you get a big ball of dough.
6. Take care to remove any lumps of coconut oil. I kneaded the dough with my hands for this step.
7. Fill the mold with the dough that you have spread and bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
8. Leave to cool.
1. Put all the ingredients in a small saucepan.
2. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon, until all the ingredients are melted and smooth.
3. Pour the mixture over the cookie dough.
4. Put everything in the fridge. While the caramel is hardening, proceed to the next step.
1. Mix all the ingredients with a whisk until you get a smooth mixture.
2. Pour the glaze over the cooled caramel layer.
3. Smooth with a spatula and sprinkle with fleur de sel (optional).
4. Let everything cool.
5. Finally, cut into chocolate bars about 2.5 cm wide or 16 equal bars.
There you go, your gluten-free and egg-free Twix are ready to be tasted :-)
Easy and quick, right? And you'll see, it's worth it, because it's much better than the industrial Twix found on the market.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it and your children too!
Know that if you resist the temptation to eat them all at once, your homemade Twix will keep in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
