The Recipe for Delicious Homemade Crisps with Potato Peelings.

Homemade crisps made from potato peelings?

Surely you think that's a crazy idea?

Not so sure!

The other day, I was looking for new inexpensive cooking recipes.

And I came across a recipe for making your own crisps, from potato peelings.

I admit I was skeptical at first...

Eat peelings? Why not!

And then I thought for two seconds:when you make baked apples or fingerling potatoes, you eat the skin well.

When I make soup with leftover vegetables, the skin is good to eat. And the skin of zucchini au gratin, we eat it well too.

In the end, all you have to do is choose organic potatoes, wash them well and follow the recipe!

So, I took advantage of the following weekend to test this recipe for the famous homemade chips .

I peeled about twenty potatoes, I might as well tell you that when it comes to peelings, there was plenty to do!

Result

There you go, your homemade chips with potato peelings are ready :-)

Ok, the shape is a bit far from traditional chips.

But after all, it's still the taste that counts!

Tasting

Verdict at happy hour :no comment.

Everyone gulped down their handfuls of crisps without saying a word, which I think is a verdict in itself!

Don't worry:when something is not good, no one bothers to point it out to me!

And when I revealed my recipe to my husband, his reaction was clear:quick, let's try other recipes!

So we added Provencal herbs, macerated the peelings in vinegar before frying them...

Or we added a little tomato puree to the flour.

In all cases, the sentence was the same:it's awfully good!

Savings achieved

Crisps aren't the most expensive thing in a shopping cart, I'll give you that.

But by preparing them yourself from peelings, by definition destined for the trash, you can only save money!

At home, for example, we turn around 2 packets of crisps per month. Two packs at €1.50, that's €3 per month. That's €36 per year . And we're not big chip eaters.

So I'll let you do the calculation of the total savings that can be made with this trick!

But what's most important is that we know exactly what we put in our chips.

Only natural products, no additives dye or other unhealthy product!

And then, this recipe can give rise to a nice cooking workshop with your children who will let their creativity speak. Beware of hot oil though!

Only constraint: remember to take organic vegetables and wash them well! Otherwise all the pesticides nestle in the skin...

Bonus tip

I used the potatoes to make a duck parmentier.

A delight ! But they can also accompany a dish of meat in sauce like this Flemish carbonade.

There's only one thing left that I haven't tried:do the same thing with carrot or zucchini peelings , just to see!
